About Matt Mahoney
Deputy Mayor and Councillor Matt Mahoney was born and raised in Mississauga. He is a dedicated advocate for the Ward 8 community, bringing with him a lifetime of local insight and a strong foundation in service. Having first been elected as Ward 8 Councillor in 2014, Matt is now in his third term. Most recently, Matt was appointed as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term of Council. Before his public service, Matt accrued over two decades of experience in the private sector. As an elected official, Deputy Mayor and Councillor Mahoney is deeply involved in various committees and boards at the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel. He has been instrumental in driving the Climate Change Action Plan forward as the Chair of the City of Mississauga's Environmental Action Committee for the past nine years. His commitment extends to conservation efforts, previously serving as a board member for the Toronto Region Conservation Authority and the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, including a recent tenure as Vice Chair of the CVC. Deputy Mayor and Councillor Mahoney resides in Ward 8 with his wife Karen, an Elementary School Teacher in Mississauga, and their children, Jack and Madison.
