Know who to call

If your basement floods, call 311 to report it and request a city investigation (response within 4 hours). Call Toronto Hydro (416-542-8000) to disconnect power before entering a flooded basement. Photograph all damage for your insurance claim.

City flood protection subsidy

Toronto offers up to $3,400 per property to install flood protection devices like backwater valves and sump pumps. Call 311 or visit toronto.ca to apply. If you already have a backwater valve, ensure the flap is clean and moves freely.

Deploy sandbags around basement entry points

Place sandbags at basement doors, window wells, and any ground-level openings. Call 311 to ask about free sandbag pickup locations during flood emergencies.
